I’ve been waiting, and pressing on, and waiting some more to see my first fiction in print. And, um…well, unfortunately, I’m still waiting. Yesterday, however, I received a much-needed dose of real, unbiased encouragement (not to mention minor bragging rights). A short story of mine, “Hungry,” was awarded an Honorable Mention in Glimmer Train’s January 2010 Very Short Fiction contest.
I’ve been told us honorable mention-ees were in the top 5% of over a thousand entries for the award. Maybe it’ll see the light of day yet! I’ve been following my standard protocol for submissions (after an initial burst, I send it out fresh every time a rejection shows up in the mail or my inbox); but this news might just spur me to try the next place right now.
